Roger Lewis is the founder, and creator of the MusicMaster™ Series for Piano and The MiniMaster™ Early Childhood Music Program. Roger passed away in March of 2019 and we miss him immensely! However, we are doing our best to carry on his legacy by continuing to do what he loved....teach and create musicians. He did this for almost 30 years and would often say that the hardest day of his life was when he had to give up teaching his students.
Our innovative teaching materials and philosophy have propelled the MusicMaster™ studios to success for over 30 years. Roger was the principal trainer of teachers and other users of this curriculum. There are other teachers using our materials in various parts of the U.S., Europe and our home state of Utah. Roger spent several years playing with jazz trios and quartets. He enjoyed playing and teaching improvisational style piano and writing choral arrangements. He has had a love of using his improvisational style of playing to accompany many singers throughout the years and was truly a Music Master himself. Our goal is for you to be able to play and improvise like Roger! He was and has convinced us that learning to improvise can and should be taught to anyone. "Music readers who can't improvise are deprived. Improvisers who can't read music are deprived". This quote is still on the walls of our studio: "Work is not, after all, the busy running back and forth in established grooves but the supreme energy and disciplined curiosity to cut new grooves." |
